Category theory in quantum mechanics

My investigations into a quantum version of Birkhoff’s theorem have led me down the road of category theory.  Without realizing it would turn out to be fortuitous at the time, I attended a short workshop/seminar last year in New Orleans at Tulane in honor of Samson Abramsky who, along with quantum biker punk Bob Coecke, really brought category theory into quantum theory, particularly quantum information science.  I had been in the Big Easy for the APS March Meeting and Howard Barnum had invited a few of us to hop the trolley to Tulane to catch part of the workshop so I did, not realizing I’d actually use any of it down the road.  In fact, as John Baez notes, it may even help bridge the gap between QM and GR.
